WHO ARE WE?
The Port Pirie Local Drug Action Team (Port Pirie LDAT) is currently made up of a range of service provider and community stakeholders who will work in partnership to develop and deliver programs that prevent or minimise harm from Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) issues in the Port Pirie and surrounding areas.
We are able to provide this service with the support of the Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF). The Local Drug Action Team Program is funded by the Australian Government and is being implemented across Australia.
The principal focus for the Port Pirie LDAT will be on primary prevention. Primary prevention tackles the causes of drug problems by preventing people from developing a drug problem in the first place. Helping people avoid using drugs or alcohol and encouraging people to adopt alternate ways of dealing with the drivers of AOD use and misuse such as stress, boredom, trauma, pain etc.
Some of the strategies that the Port Pirie LDAT may explore include;
Education in schools, community or workplace settings
Peer Support programs
Early intervention programs
Positive parenting programs
The Port Pirie LDAT currently has representatives from a broad range of Health, Council, Social and Mental Health Support Services, Service Clubs and Community Members. To see who they are, please click here.
PLEASE NOTE: We are not a service that can provide Alcohol & Other Drug Counselling. If you feel you or you know someone that may need AOD Counselling, please see the services available in the Port Pirie region here or call Alcohol & Drug Information Service (ADIS) on 1300 13 13 40 (8.30 am to 10.00 pm every day).
